We partnered with the Civil Rights Department in California to create a campaign under our brand: California vs Hate. They wanted a series of friendly and bright posters to display in store windows around the state, letting the public know that the place of business is a safe space for staff and customers alike.

At first, we approached the project with the idea of hand-painted signs, but that quickly morphed into wanting to represent the ideals of the campaign through illustration. We still took a nod from “We’re Open” posters as well as old classified ads, but put our own spin on it.

After finishing the intricate illustration work, I placed our California vs Hate brand gradients behind them to tie them into the campaign and make the posters pop.
